Program Description

The Adult Mental Health Court Diversion and Court Support Services provides diversion opportunities to consumers who have been charged with a minor criminal offence, support and information to the accused and family, information on mental illness and community services to the criminal justice system, education on court procedures to service providers and referral to mental health assessment and supports. The Court Support Program assists individuals who have had minor offences but who may not be eligible for mental health court diversion get connected to required mental health services, as well as provides advice to the court system on treatment oriented disposition options.

Access Information

Anyone may make a referral to the program. A Provincial Crown Attorney must approve the individual service plan in order to proceed with diversion options. Only those persons with minor criminal offences are eligible for diversion. The mental health issue must have been a contributing factor in commission of the alleged offence. The Court Support Program also assists individuals in navigating the judicial system. Persons admitted to either program must have a psychiatric diagnosis and/or be willing to participate in undergoing assessment as necessary.
