Access Information

Admission to the inpatient unit is facilitated through the emergency department or through elective referrals. Criteria for admission include high-risk of harm to self or others, and acute psychiatric states, including psychosis or acute stress response syndromes requiring assessment and treatment in a safe, supervised setting. Goals of an inpatient stay are to: assess and stabilize; clarify the diagnosis; initiate treatment; educate the child/adolescent and family about the disorder, its treatment and management; and connect with community resources for ongoing assessment and treatment. Note: the inpatient unit is not appropriate for ongoing treatment of eating disorders or active substance abuse (i.e. treatment for acute withdrawal-related symptoms).
