Diversion and Court Support

Program Description

Voluntary program provides case management and supportive services for adults with mental health needs who have been charged with a criminal offence. Services may include facilitation of legal aid/ retaining legal counsel, linkages to support services, housing or income supports, education and support for client and/or support persons regarding legal processes, facilitation of alternatives to prosecution when appropriate. Options include diversion, bail release, sentencing recommendations to ensure linkages to service and/or relevant treatment options while in custody, support while in custody and/ or comprehensive discharge planning for individuals transitioning into community from incarceration. Goal is to provide supportive services for clients that will ultimately reduce likelihood of future contact with the criminal justice system. Model of service incorporates Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) principles.
