Short-Term Crisis Support Beds

Program Description

The Safe Beds Program (SBP) is a voluntary residential program that provides psychosocial rehabilitation services with a recovery-oriented philosophy.

There are 2 components:
Short stay (7-10 days): for individuals experiencing a mental health or addictions related crisis (2 beds)
Police mandated (up to 30 days): for individuals in immediate contact with the police(4 beds)

Who is eligible?
- valid OHIP coverage
- individuals experiencing a mental health/addictions crisis
- individuals who can be safely supported in the community

Access Information

An eligibility screener will be conducted with each referral

Referrals are accepted up to 24 hours prior to the anticipated admission date.

Short Stay Beds:
- Referrals are accepted from all sources
- Priority will be given to referrals received from hospitals or correction services

Police Mandated Beds:
Referrals are accepted only from:
- Police
- Crisis Intervention following police involvement
- Individuals brought to hospital under the Mental Health Act by police
